In the morning after the first jump into the warm water to get down from the dreamlike scenery enjoy a first coconut sip. At noon to the food stand on the corner and maybe a first cool rum - it will be a long day. And in the evening from sound system to sound system through Port of Spain: Life is better in the Tropics - not least because of the music. The sound of Trinidad and Tobago, which you can hear on the mixtape to the CREE × CLEPTO shirt, determines life in the Caribbean island state. For Merten Kaatz of CREE Records, the islands have become a second home next to Hamburg and a paradise for record diggers. The re-releases on the label tell about the clubs and beach bars, good rum for good food, all the disassembling carnival celebrations and a good time with good people on every corner. The tropics!
Global Soundwaves
His search for Calypso, Bollywood Classics, Funk, Soca Sounds and all the sounds and cultures the Tradewinds have brought together has taken him to the centre of the perfect global cultural storm. Trinidad and Tobago bring together people from India, Africa, Portugal, China and Europe. Some were violently brought here in colonial times, others came to the islands later to find a better life and to flee from violence. A typical day in Port of Spain is never a typical day because everything can always happen and you never know when it will end. In order not to miss a thing, Merten now runs a large part of his label work from here. This has earned him the local nickname Liming, which translates as "coming together relaxed, on the beach, with music, with or without rum" and summarises his days under palm trees quite well.

On the mixtape to the CREE × CLEPTO shirt you can hear and feel all that. For the fifth label birthday, international DJs and music producers have inhaled the sound of the islands and edited it with edits and remixes.
